Acupuncture: - Regulates and improves the function of the organ associated
with the needled channel.
- Generates a homeostatic effect on the body by refining the
production of hormones, chemicals and nerve impulses.
- Actually feels Good. Most people who receive acupuncture for
the first time are suprised by the lack of pain they
experience. However, people may feel a variety of
sensations either at the point location, or along the
pathway of the channel stimulated. They are commonly
described as:
- Warm.
- Heavy.
- Distending.
- Dull.
- Achey.
- Travelling.
- Pulsating.
- Tingley.
- Sometimes imperceptible.
The Needles: - Are tiny. 8 of them can fit into a hypodermic needle.
- Are few. Generally between 2 and 8 needles are used per
treatment.
- Are sharp. This means they insert smoothly - no pain.
- Are sterilized.
- Are only used once.
(Interesting note:
Acupuncture grew out of a refinement of Tuina usage, as over time, instead of fingers/thumbs/hands/elbows, stones were used to stimulate certain acupoints, eventually being replaced by sharpened bone shards, and inevitabley the creation of alloyed metals.
It also depended upon the Self-Awareness enhancing factor of Qi Gong to be able to perceive the subtle stimulation of qi when the needles were inserted and manipulated. All the famous physicians that have contributed to acupuncture theory over the years were Qi Gong practitioners.)
